A crown is a 'cap' or 'helmet' for a tooth. A dental crown is usually placed on a brittle or mechanically weak tooth to reinforce and strengthen it. A dental crown can also dramatically improve the aesthetic of a discoloured or misshapen tooth.
A crown can be made from several materials with the most effective being Zirconium.
Zirconium dental crowns usually require two visits to complete.
Symptoms that may necessitate a dental crown:
• Large fractures of the tooth
• Deep hairline cracks of the tooth
• Root canal treatment on a tooth
• heavily discoloured or misshaped tooth
• Large fillings causing tooth to be brittle.
A dental bridge uses two or more teeth to support a false tooth (called a pontic). The bridge is fixed in place and feels very natural. A bridge can be constructed from start to finish within 10 days and requires two appointments.
Dental bridges require alteration to the supporting teeth and not all teeth are suitable for this purpose. The dentists at Hillier Road Dental can tell you whether a dental bridge is a good option for you.
Everyone's teeth are unique and whilst some people are lucky enough to show off dazzlingly white, straight and perfect teeth, the majority of us have teeth with "character". There is a way, however, that you can achieve a natural and healthy smile, albeit with a little bit of help from our dentists.
Dental veneers are custom-made casings that fit neatly over the natural tooth giving it a more uniform appearance and hiding any tooth defects.
